Ms. J is a proud native of Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Cedar Hill High School in 2003, and Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in History from Clark Atlanta University (HBCU) in 2007, she taught high school history in Atlanta, GA and Harlem, NY. In 2010, she obtained a M.A. in Teaching with National Board Certified Teacher Leadership specialization, and joined staff at Teach For America where she coached early-career teachers in social justice education practices. Ms. J co-founded TFA’s Pre-Corps Development division, from which her teacher education pilot, “Education for Justice”, was later incorporated into study at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She became an independent consultant in 2015, and went on to coach thousands of students, educators, trainers, and executives through her proprietary frameworks.
Ms. J founded Building Opportunities & Opening Minds in 2016 in aims of offering healing educational experiences to the young descendants of African and Indigenous American survivors of Euro-American colonialism. Her hope is that BOOM will lift visionaries to the helm of the solutions-thinking that impacts their daily lives.
Beyond BOOM, J produces documentaries & visual journals, and studies ancient & indigenous cultural and healing practices worldwide. She loves fashion, food, and freedom.
