College students (SPARKS) and high school students (MATCHES) facilitate the interdisciplinary curriculum that K-8 students (FLAMES) learn during BOOM Freedom Summer. Fellows receive daily coaching from classroom teachers (TRAILBLAZERS), compile a portfolio of work samples and reflections, and are awarded the BOOM Freedom Fund at summer’s end. SPARKS are also eligible for an AmeriCorps Stipend and Education Award.

The BOOM Freedom Fund ranges from $500 to $3000 and is correlated to the participants’ grade level and overall performance. While AmeriCorps award amounts are determined annually by our CitySquare partner, the awards are usually about $3000. To date, BOOM has disbursed $215,000 in stipends and scholarships to Dallas-area high school and college students. 70% of former SPARKS are currently in classrooms, including 2 Teacher of the Year awardees and a Teach For America DFW corps member.
