BOOM Freedom Summer promotes socioemotional learning, identity awareness, literacy, STEAM access, and youth expression. This culturally responsive six-week experience increases students love of learning, bolsters self-pride, and defeats the summer slide, all while providing free meals, books, and field trips to exciting city sites.

Since 2018, approximately 350 students have participated in BOOM Freedom Summer, and 100% of participants maintained or gained reading levels as measured by the Developmental Reading Assessment [DRA]. In an independent survey, participants reported an overall engagement rate of 90.75% and an overall sense of belonging of 96.25%.
